Description East India Company Lancer percussion pistol. Overall length approx. 15 in, barrel length approx. 9 in. Round steel barrel to shiny steel finish with speckles of “old” darker rust throughout and Indian proof marks to the breach. The lock plate and percussion hammer similarly coloured to the barrel. The lock plate with the East India Company rampant lion motif and the hammer with civilian scroll decoration.standard brass trigger guard and butt cap with a steel screw-in lanyard ring. The wooden stock has been shortened at the forend, the stirrup retained ramrod removed and replaced with a wooden ramrod. The walnut stock appears to have been lacquered or varnished. The pistol sold out of service in the 1860s/ 70s and “civilianised” to appeal to its new owner in my opinion? The pistol with some knocks and age wear commensurate with age and in good overall condition.
