The South Carolina-born singer and guitarist was influenced early on by his father, blues guitarist Marvin King, and his grandfather, a country musician, and he has developed a captivating vocal performance and soulful guitar playing. Now, before the age of 30, Marcus is working with Gibson on a second remarkable signature model: the new Marcus King ES-345 is inspired by King’s main guitar, a 1962 ES-345 that was passed down to him by his family. This modern version captures the look and vibe of his original, but features essential “modern” upgrades, including mono wiring, a pair of custom humbucker pickups, a fixed Vibrola tailpiece for improved tuning stability, and a custom Marcus King stud anchor cover . All the standard ES-345 features are present, including the multilayered maple/poplar/maple body, solid maple center block for improved sustain and feedback resistance, and gold hardware including an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and Grover Rotomatic tuners. The mahogany neck has a rounded “C” profile. The Indian rosewood fingerboard is decorated with split parallelogram inlays made of acrylic and equipped with 22 medium jumbo frets. A Graph Tech nut improves tuning stability, and the guitar is finished in classic sixties cherry. A Gibson hardshell case is included to safely store or transport the Marcus King ES-345.
