DescriptionThe Landsknecht Katsbalger was known as a Buckler sword due to its shortness. These swords were used in crowded fighting conditions usually with a small shield known as a buckler. German Landsknecht Mercenary fighters used a variety of these swords, some longer but rarely shorter than this example which makes it quite rare. The figure 8 guard was common for these swords. A prominent makers mark is on the blade.
