I have been in the market for steel targets for a long time.I am a police firearms instructor and a enthusiastic hobby shooter, and steel is the way to go for instant feedback for focus on sight picture and trigger manipulation. This target stand has several uses: as a paper/cardboard target stand, a steel target “clanger”, a steel target “knock over”, and a combination of knock over and cardboard.I bought three stands with three different heads: the “A” zone plate, an 8″ circle plate, and a 6″ circle plate. The stands come unassembled, with easy to read, easy to follow instructions. The hardware is packed in plastic bags, each bag containing the nuts, bolts, pins, and plates needed for each part of the assembly. Each stand took about 20 minutes to assemble, including the target plate assembly. You’ll need two 7/16″ wrenches and a 3/4′ wrench. In my opinion the heavy duty bases for the stands are still very light to carry, and setting up three of the stands on the range to shoot steel only takes a few minutes. These stands are easy to convert from “clanger” to “knock over” and back (one pin), and easy to adjust for “power factor” in the knock over position. The height of the plates are adjusted by the length of the 2X4 used to support the plate.I used three pieces of scrap I had in my firewood pile.I had a few of my officers help me break in the steel targets. Each plate head had about 200 rounds of .45, .40, and 9mm fired on it, and about 50 rounds each of XM193 5.56.The great: lightweight, easy to assemble on the range, easy to adjust at the range, very rugged plates and attaching bolts, easy to switch plate heads around, lots of fun to shoot The not so great: a) there is a small steel plate that keeps the screw that secures the 2×4 in the bottom of the stand from piercing the wood; this plate is unsecured, and can become lost while transporting the stand. b) the pin that allows the base to pivot for knock over use is small, and secures with a small cotter key; I lost the cotter key to two of the bases the first day I used them (I am ham-fisted).All in all, these are great stands, I am very happy with them, and I would recommend them to anyone.
